Obituary for Anil Shantilal Mehta

Anil Shantilal Mehta, passed away on Monday, August 22nd, 2022 at the age of 80. He is survived by his devoted wife Manju; his three daughters, Sujata (Steve), Sangeeta (Chad) and Sapna (Andy); his six grandchildren, Shreya, Ishan, Maya, Neela, Rumi and Livia; and his brother, Bharat (Ansuya) and their family. He is predeceased by his mother (Champa), his father (Shantilal) and his sister (Jyotsna).

Born on June 11, 1942 in Morbi, India, Anil was the eldest of three children. He experienced tragedy as a young boy when his mother passed away unexpectedly. Armed with a sharp mind and the unwavering determination to find a better life for himself, he excelled in academics, attending UDCT/ICT in Mumbai and then earning a scholarship to study Chemical Engineering at the University of Wisconsin, and subsequently getting his MBA. In 1969, he returned to India to get married, and made perhaps the smartest decision of his life in choosing Manju as his partner for life. After living in Richmond, VA and Birmingham, AL, he settled his family in Houston. He had a successful globe-trotting career, climbing the ranks from engineer to executive during his 42 loyal years at KBR. Beyond his successful career, he found a deeper purpose in life through Swadhyaya and the teachings of Dadaji, teachings that guided and comforted him throughout his life.

Anil was an avid traveler, loving family man, spiritual teacher and leader, and provided wisdom for all those who entered his home seeking advice; never saying too much or too little; but using just the right words. He lived a full, rich life, leaving no stone unturned and not burdened by a single regret. He will be remembered and cherished by his family, his extended family, his Swadhyaya Parivar, his friends, and all the lives he touched near and far. We are heartbroken by his sudden departure but he will forever be with us in spirit, while he continues his journey in seeking to become one with the Divine.
