Obituary for Chein Hion "Sonny" Ng

Chein Hion “Sonny” Ng passed away at the age of 72 on July 27, 2020, in Houston, TX. Sonny was born on December 21, 1947, to Kui Ng and Soon Yon Chee. He was raised in Kuala Belait, Brunei with his 12 siblings. He is survived by his son, John Ng; his son and daughter-in-law, Peter and Grace Ng; his daughter, Cindy Ng; his granddaughters, Kaeley and Kenadie Ng; and pets, Jake and Cooper.

After secondary schooling, he worked for Shell Petroleum Company on offshore rigs as a Senior Foreman. In 1981, he immigrated to Houston, Texas with his family to provide a better life. He began his career as an electrician and later transitioned to General Contracting where he made lots of friends.

Those of you that know my dad, knew he was always a man of few words. He enjoyed simple pleasures in life and although he didn’t say much, he always showed his acknowledgment with a little smirk. He always started the morning watching the news to keep up with current times. During the NFL season, Sundays were always for football. He’s always had a large collection of movies and for special occasions, when asked what he wanted to eat, it was almost always Malaysian food.

We like to thank all of our dear friends and family who have reached out to share fond memories and expressions of sympathy. Special thanks to Memorial Hermann Memorial City IMU and MICU staff for their care and comfort during his final days.

In lieu of flowers, donations are welcomed.
