Obituary for Manorama Ramakant Parikh

Manorama Ramakant Parikh was born in Baroda, India. Her father was the principal of Sayaiji High School and mother was a homemaker. She had a large family of six sisters and four brothers. In 1950, she graduated from high school and married Ramakant N. Parikh. She then moved to Mumbai.

After the birth of her son, she decided to continue her education by obtaining her teaching certificate for embroidery. She worked her way up to being the principal of The Jain Institute. She developed the schools programming, overseeing 35 teachers and 750 students per year.

She was also active in her community, organizing many volunteer events and serving as the secretary of the community association. All the while, she was also a full-time homemaker, as her husband worked two teaching jobs.

In retirement, she and her husband moved home to Baroda. She joined various senior community groups, winning awards in garba dance. She had a passion for judging cooking and dance competitions. After the passing of her husband, she moved to the United States to be closer to her son. She again enjoyed new social groups at the senior community center. She enjoyed her daily Satsang (prayer) group and many community events.

Manorama is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years Ramakant; brothers Harivadanbhai, Hashmukhbhai, and Kiritbhai; Sisters Kapilaben, Sanumatiben, and Vidyaben. She is survived by her brothers Ushakant; sisters Niranjanaben and Malvikaben; son Bharat; daughter-in law, Jyoti; Grandchildren Nimesh, Kisan and wife, Amanda; and great-grandchild Rajleigh.
