Obituary

Ming Lock Lim, affectionately known as "Ming-a-ling", was born on July 27th, 1954 and his sudden departure on July 20th, 2020 peacefully from complications of cardiac arrest has left us all deeply saddened with heavy hearts. Born in Hong Kong but resided in the Houston area much of his life, Ming graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School and attended Texas A&M and University of Houston School of Restaurant Management. He was a member of the US Marine Corps.

Predeceased by his grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Jim Long and Mr. & Mrs. Johnny Moy and Uncle Wing C. Mui. Left to cherish his memory are his parents, Sam and Linda Lim; children Amanda (Jessie) and grandchildren Jacey, Jessie and Solomon Hammack; Brenda (Sean) and grandson Taylor McArthur; and James and granddaughters Alexa and Makena Lim. His siblings Sing (Sarah), Eva, Ling (Madelyn), Elaine (Scott) and nephews/nieces Jared, Jordan, Jonathan, and Jason Lim; Ryan, Evan, and Kate Lock; Haley, Bucky and Holly Willis. Uncle Wing F Mui (Liesel) of Naperville, IL and Aunt Mrs. Wing C. Mui of Chicago, IL.
Numerous loved cousins and many treasured friends.

Ming had a deep devotion to caring for others and always making sure everyone was fed. He gave his beautiful light in this world with his comical sense of wisdom, larger than life smile, and loving generosity to an abundance of people and never asked for much in return. He shared countless great times with family and friends over the years in his home, out and about, and at his annual beach house gatherings. He had a divine dedication to fishing and cooking, he would spend endless hours doing them both to help others or anyone who was up for a challenge to learn or compete in cook-offs. He was always helping friends out and making sure those without family nearby during the holidays enjoyed a family atmosphere and home cooked meal. Always sharing his bounty of fish catches and making sure everyone enjoyed their favorite foods. His plans were to enjoy his retirement relaxing by the seashore and reading paperback books (his other passion) visit with his children and grandkids and continue to help others.

His soul has been set free and God is saying he’s at peace. We will miss that big, wide, quirky smile of his.

As many of you probably know, Ming wished to be cremated and set free to roam and fish with no limits. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to your local food bank, to honor Ming’s desire to make sure everyone had a good meal. For those of you desiring to see Ming, we are working on establishing visitation periods with him before we send him off on his eternal fishing trip.

Due to COVID, a Celebration of Life service will be announced at a later date.

All our love and condolences to your family from ours. I’ve been friends with Ming for almost 20 years, and I know I am a better person for it. He was my best friend, my brother, my confidante. He was so many things to so many people. He was loved by everyone who met him. I know I loved him with all my heart and cherished our friendship so very much. Thanks you to his family for allowing us to be a part of this via the internet link. I’m sorry I could not be there in person.
