Obituary for Sang Kuk Yi

Sang-Kuk Yi, 90, died peacefully on Thursday, May 25, 2023, at Lakeview Place, Houston, Texas. Sang-Kuk was born in Kyoung-Book, Young-Il the southern providence in South Korea on May 7th, 1933. He was the 4th son among 6 other siblings of Father Hyun-Woo Yi and Mother Chul-Hee Kim. He was a chef and owned restaurants in Honolulu, Hawaii, and Houston, Texas. He previously owned his own business, he worked as Chef at the hotels and resorts. He married Kum-Sun Yi on November 13, 1957. He fell in love at first sight and the date he married was Kum-Sun’s 21st birthday.

Sang-Kuk’s hobby was fishing and was out fishing 5 days out of the week after he retired. He was an early bird, a fixer (Handyman), gardener, and built outside storage huts for all his children’s backyards.

Sang-Kuk is survived by his loving wife Kum-Sun, his son, Yong-Ha Yi, and his wife Myueng-Hwa, 2nd son Yong-Il Yi and his wife Sarah, daughter Mi-Hyang and her husband Seung-Beom Hong, 2nd daughter Mi-Suk and her husband Joon Kyu Kim, 11 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.

The funeral viewing service will be held at The Korean Central Presbyterian Church of Houston located at 14311 Park Row, Houston, Texas 77084 at 10 AM on May 29th Memorial Day.

The Burial Service will be held on the same day at the Memorial Oak Funeral Home & Cemetery located at 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston Texas 77079 at 11:30 AM.

Lunch will be served right after the burial service for all guests at 12:30 PM at the Hibachi Grill & Buffet located at 2183 Katy Tollway H, Houston, TX 77079.
