Obituary for Vi Chi Dieu

Vi C. Dieu, or as his sister lovingly calls him “Vivian” was born in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam on February 21, 1991 and at age 29 years young, was invited to start his journey to dance in heaven and fish in paradise on August 5, 2020. He was an amazing and loving son to his father, Nhon “OG” Dieu; mother, Nghi N. Huynh, and an unmatched loving big little brother to his sister, Hoa L. Dieu; as well as wonderful member of the entire Dieu family.

He lived to do what he loved and what he loved to do was dance and fish. His first passion was fishing with OG since he was a child. This passion only continued to grow as he aged and he was able to find an amazing fishing family with his “Kemah Squad”. He found his passion for dance in high school, which introduced him to a whole new dance world. Training in Modern and Ballet at UH deepened his passion, love, understanding, and appreciation of dance. He graduated Summa Cum Laude with a B.A. in Dance and a minor in Interdisciplinary Arts at the University of Houston School of Theatre and Dance in spring 2015.

Vi continued to pursue dance with his UH Theatre and Dance family through performing professionally for Psophonia Dance Company and Karen Stokes Dance Company. He also remained as a big part of Unason’s (a dance family that he helped found during his time at UH) heart. He loved to spread his love, passion, knowledge of dance and was able to do so through working with Houston Ballet’s Education & Community Engagement Teaching Artist; where he not only taught dance but inspired his students to be their best selves. Vi also developed a passion to cook through his love for food and desire to cook for the people he loved so he can share the warmth of home cooking and food cooked with love.

There are not enough words or space to describe how truly wonderful Vi was. Everyone who knew him knows him as the kind of person that brought love, positivity, light, and laughter to everyone he met. He placed his heart where it can easily touch the people who cross paths with him. Vi has one of the purest souls you can find and the biggest heart of gold you can imagine anyone to have. He was always willing to go out of his way to help or make sure you were taken care of. Whatever he does, he does it with passion, love, and care. The world has lost one of the brightest lights it had but those that were blessed enough to have witnessed and come into contact with his light will no doubt continue to carry it.
