Celebration of Yogendra’s Life

Born on April 15th, 1942, in Morvi, Gujrat, India, Yogendra Kumar Garach, also lovingly known as “Yogi,” was the second eldest son of Brindavandas and Lalita Garach. He grew up in Bombay and Calcutta amongst his 6 brothers and 2 sisters. Family and education were of utmost importance to him his entire life, and he expressed that through his actions from a young age. He was determined to create a better life for himself and his family. He worked his way through college to get a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering degree and soon after graduating, he received the opportunity to immigrate to the USA. A man who came from humble beginnings, would then work small jobs for some years in New York City before attaining a job that matched his true proficiency. In 1975, he received a job offer in electrical engineering in Houston. The next phase of his life was just getting started.

Yogi married Ranjana Dhar in 1977 and soon after, they had their daughter, Shally and four years later, their son, Shailesh. He was a dedicated husband and a loving father who was committed to providing for his family and made sure to teach his kids the value of hard work. He was incredibly proud of his daughter, Shally Garach who is a practicing CPA at a top firm and Shailesh Garach, a Customer Success Director, at a top tech company.

Yogi was a true family man. His love extended beyond his home to his extended family in India, London, and the US. He became the go-to big brother, brother-in-law, and uncle; like a second father figure for his nieces and nephews.

In 1985, Yogi moved his family to Overland Park, Kansas to further his career and pursue a Masters in Electrical Engineering. Over time, friends became family and Kansas became home. The family celebrated Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, alongside Diwali every year with their friends.

In 2005, Yogi received an offer to work in Houston and though he was in tears leaving his KC fam, he knew better opportunities awaited him. Yogi and Ranjana, quickly reconnected with old Houston friends while making many many new ones. It wasn’t long after, two of their closest KC friends also moved to Houston and life felt more complete. Soon, Yogi retired, and began traveling the world and enjoying time with close family and friends. Recently, his favorite pastime was to spend quality time with his granddaughter Kaira.

Yogi had a distinct smile that filled you with happiness. He will be immensely missed. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Ranjana, daughter, Shally, son Shailesh, daughter-in-law, Jyotsna and grandchild, Kaira.
